Slow Food on Campus and other Convivia
The Youth Food Movement is founded on the philosophy of Slow Food.
As a member supported organisation; Slow Food takes the form around the world of local groups called convivia (singular convivium). Each convivium is as unique as the region it's in and the people, culture and food traditions there. What they all have in common is their desire to bring Slow Food to their communities, whether by seeking out local food producers and supporting them through projects, events or partnerships; starting up school gardens and educational programmes; organising workshops, lectures, classes and conferences; or bringing together people to celebrate the joys and pleasures that food offers us.
With students in mind, Slow Food USA started a special programme called Slow Food on Campus - university based convivia. Slow Food on Campus members represent a passionate cross-section of youth addressing food issues, spanning environmental and social causes.
Being located in an academic setting means these convivia are able to take advantage of the intellectual community and resources surrounding them and to change the way students think about food in a wide variety of schools.
In collaboration with Slow Food USA, Slow Food International is working to support the development of the programme in other countries. As campus convivia sprout up around the world they all become part of the Youth Food Movement, creating more and more opportunities to share resources and ideas as well as collaborate on projects and activities.
